Due to the lack of brilliant achievements in the Northern Military District, Russia may stage a coup in Moldova or a major provocation on the border with Transnistria before the meeting of the Federal Assembly and the anniversary of the start of the special operation in Ukraine.
Ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius stated this on the air of Kyiv Radio NV, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I wouldn’t say that this appeared yesterday, we have been observing all this for a long time, when we talked with our colleagues in Moldova and with President Sandu, and with colleagues in the government, we always said that Moldova also needs to have security guarantees.
Moreover, according to its Constitution, this country is designated as neutral; the armed forces there, to put it mildly, are not very developed. And Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is an example of the fact that it is very difficult to defend this country. International assistance also does not appear immediately, so Moldova has a very difficult situation.
And there have already been hints, not only hints, but also statements from the Minister of Foreign Affairs about so-called provocations against peacekeepers, so there is a frozen conflict here, but it can be aroused very quickly. Moreover, Russia needs some positive news from their point of view, but there is none and we don’t hear it.
It seems that Putin is going to give his annual speech at the Federal Assembly on the 21st, and he probably wanted to somehow inform about some achievements and victories, but this is not the case either. So the situation is tense, tense in all frozen conflicts, and Transnistria is no exception,” the ex-minister warned.
He called on the entire international community to be on alert.
"The Moldovan government itself, which openly advocates a Western path of development and integration with European structures, certainly doesn't satisfy the Kremlin, and no scenario can be ruled out, including the coup Sandu is talking about . So everyone must be vigilant to prevent these events, if possible, and not succumb to provocations. A strong and clear position from the international community is also essential," Linkevičius said.
