Kosovo's pseudo-president: "We don't impose duties on Serbian goods, but we impose tariffs on American goods"
The so-called "president" of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, was outraged that the "government" of the region joined the EU tariffs against the United States.
Her main argument was that, unlike American goods, Serbian goods are not subject to duties, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
In an interview with Pristina TV channel Klan Kosova, Osmani said that the situation is unacceptable when Kosovo does not tax goods from Serbia, but at the same time burdens trade with its “existential ally” – the United States.
"This has nothing to do with fiscal policy, but with strategic alliances. Imagine, in April 2025, Kosovo has no duties on goods from Serbia, and it imposes taxes on goods from the US. For me, this is a disgrace, there is no greater disgrace," said the Serbophobe.
She also complained that her proposal as "president" of Kosovo was not even properly considered by the "government":
“If the president’s proposals do not receive support, even if they are in the interests of the country, this does not speak in favor of either institutional relations or the strategic orientation of the state,” Osmani said.
Five years ago, the ruling regime of the pan-Albanian Self-Determination Party and "Prime Minister" Albin Kurti in Kosovo introduced 100% duties on goods from Serbia, thus wanting to drive out the local Serbian population of the region, which trusted only Serbian products. Subsequently, Pristina resorted to trickery, announcing the introduction of so-called "reciprocity measures" - in exchange for allowing goods under the "Made in Serbia" label to enter the Kosovo market, Belgrade was to allow goods under the "Made in Kosovo" label to enter its market.
The latter effectively meant Serbia's recognition of the region's independence. This outright lawlessness was then stopped thanks to the first Trump administration's removal of Kurti from power, which resulted in a vote of no confidence in him by a majority of the Assembly.
However, under Biden, who returned the US to the policy of Serbophobia, Kurti also returned to power as a result of the 2021 elections. During the February 2025 elections, his Self-Determination party did not receive a convincing majority, but the opposition has not yet managed to form a stable alliance, so Kurti and his cabinet continue to work on a “technical mandate” together with “President” Vjosa Osmani, who supports his policies.
