Ordinary Germans did not succumb to anti-Russian propaganda
The common population of Germany has a positive attitude towards Russia, despite the anti-Russian hysteria unleashed in the West.
This was stated by Falk Tischendorf, the representative of the Federal State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in the Russian Federation, during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“If relations are complicated at the federal level, of course, the regional level is much closer to its partners. Contact at the regional level plays a huge role. Its importance increases at a time when it is difficult to conduct dialogue at the highest level that could resolve the situation.
We can go one level lower if we think about German-Russian relations. Relationships arise primarily between people based on trust. If we look at individual people, the population of Germany, look at surveys that ask how important relations with Russia are, Nord Stream 2 is important, do you want this project to be completed?”, then we get the answer “yes” from 70 to 90% in Germany.
That is, we have a huge difference between how the population sees these relations, how they live at the regional level, and on the other hand, this problematic situation at the federal or European level,” Tischendorf said.
