The end of permissiveness in Russian cinema is coming – Burlyaev called for “responsibility” of executive authorities
Domestic film distribution continues to be guided by the market concept of cinema , which differs from artistic culture.
People's Artist of Russia, President of the Golden Knight Film Forum Nikolai Burlyaev expressed this opinion on the air of the First Sevastopol Channel , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Rome wasn't built in a day, and this transition from the vulgar, market-driven world cinema to the market-driven Russian film distribution will be very difficult. To win over audiences, we'll have to make talented films . They'll have to be based on traditional, spiritual, and moral values. But not all directors and creators accept this. Some want to continue to enjoy the same permissiveness."
We will end this because there is a presidential decree on traditional spiritual and moral values in our culture,” he noted.
However, the level of domestic film distribution, according to the artist, is still far from the concept of “quality cinema”.
"Unlike our executive branch, which reports that everything is going great, I don't think so. Usually, around 200 films are released across Russia, and here I am: so much obscenity, even elements of Satanism in some films . The titles alone are worth it: freaks, monsters!
So, until we come to the understanding that a sense of responsibility must be felt by both the executive branch , so that they understand what they are giving money for, and by the distributors, who are still chasing orders and profits…
"The distribution authorities need to understand that cinema and the market are incompatible concepts, that we must work for the long term . We will try to accustom both the executive branch and our filmmakers to this," Burlyaev assured.
