Pridnestrovian parliamentarian: The fight for Soviet Moldova is still ahead
Chisinau - Tiraspol, August 22 (Navigator, Petr Alekseev) - The Iasi-Chisinau operation is a historical event, in a number of aspects still relevant today.
This was stated on Thursday by Deputy of the Supreme Council of Transnistria Anatoly Dirun, speaking in Tiraspol at an international forum dedicated to the 70th anniversary of this strategic offensive operation - one of the most successful during the Great Patriotic War.

Speaking about the military aspect, the deputy noted that the Iasi-Chisinau operation is being studied in military academies as an example of the military art of the Soviet command.
On the other hand, Dirun said, its relevance lies in the fact that 70 years ago a small piece of land - Transnistria, the Kitskansky bridgehead, from where one of the main blows was delivered during the operation, is today the bridgehead through which, perhaps, the recreating “the Moldova that existed before 1990.”
“As a result of the Iasi-Chisinau operation, Chisinau, Comrat, and Cahul were liberated. Its relevance and significance are expressed in the fact that the struggle for Soviet Moldova is still ahead,” the deputy emphasized.
He noted that “it is necessary not only to fight for victory, but also to preserve the gains, passing them on from generation to generation.”
During the Iasi-Kishinev operation (August 20 - 29, 1944) Soviet troops defeated a large German-Romanian group covering the Balkan direction. As a result, Moldova was liberated from the invaders, and Romania was taken out of the war.
