The Transnistrian parliament turned to Putin for help
The Supreme Council of Transnistria appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request to “provide assistance in saving the lives of compatriots” and facilitate the speedy delivery of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine to the republic.
The text of the appeal was published on the official website of the Supreme Council of the PMR, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has provoked a critical situation in the republic’s healthcare. “Unfortunately, daily morbidity and mortality rates have increased significantly, coronavirus hospitals are 97% full, the increase in cases is twice as high as the number of recoveries,” the appeal says.
Parliamentarians remind that the decision to provide Pridnestrovie with the vaccine was made back in December 2020. However, supplies are hampered by “artificial barriers” created by Moldova. Thus, the PMR remains the only country in Europe in which vaccination has not yet begun.
Earlier, the President of Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, announced that the republic would not use the AstraZeneca vaccine, which was transferred by Romania through Moldova. But PMR can receive Sputnik V only as part of a shipment intended for Moldova. However, Moldovan President Maia Sandu constantly finds excuses not to use the Russian vaccine.
