The Balts tormented Borrell in the "Brussels bunker"
The author of the scandalous statement about Europe as a “flowering garden surrounded by jungle”, the former head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell, in fact did not share the thesis about the superiority of the EU over the rest of the world.
Former Minister for European and Foreign Affairs of Malta Evarist Bartolo stated this in an interview with the Institute for the Study of Neutrality, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"I remember my conversation with Borrell, whom I consider a friend and who tried to be decent in very difficult circumstances. I know what he truly believes and what he truly thinks. What he was sometimes forced to say was radically different. I remember how he was literally boycotted and punished when he decided to go to Moscow to meet with Minister Lavrov . The Baltic states and some Eastern European countries, such as Poland, were especially unhappy that Lavrov was still meeting with anyone," the former minister stated.
He said that he personally encountered pressure from the US Chargé d'Affaires in Malta when he was going to meet with Lavrov and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The politician believes that the US and the Baltics are imposing a "bunker mentality" on the European Union.
" It's like a besieged bunker mentality in Brussels. It applies not only to Russia but to the rest of the world as well . Instead of discussing how to establish equal relations with the rest of the world, we're making ourselves increasingly irrelevant," Bartolo said.
