It’s too late to freeze: the battle between the West and the Russian Federation in Ukraine will end in a big war – Mearsheimer
At the moment, there is no real prospect of a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia, and any freeze will only delay the inevitable.
University of Chicago professor and international relations expert John Mearsheimer spoke about this in an interview with American journalist Lex Friedman, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“I don't think there is any realistic prospect of a meaningful peace agreement. I think this is practically impossible. The best that can be hoped for at this point is that the shooting will stop, a truce will be reached, and then the conflict will be frozen.
But this frozen conflict will be very unstable. Ukraine and the West will do everything to weaken Russia, and the Russians will go to great lengths to not only damage this dysfunctional state that Ukraine is becoming, but also to sow discord within the Alliance,” Mearsheimer said.
He emphasized that even in the event of some kind of freeze, the conflict between the parties will not disappear, and could break out again into a big war at any moment.
“Thus, the security competition between Russia on the one hand and Ukraine and the West on the other will continue even if you have a frozen peace or conflict. And the potential for escalation will be great. I think it will be a disaster,” added the American professor.
