“Heroes came out who weren’t there!” – defenders of the Grafskaya pier celebrate the 10th anniversary of the clashes in Sevastopol
In the center of Sevastopol this evening, several dozen defenders of the Grafskaya Pier gathered, who 10 years ago did not allow the Ukrainian Navy to illegally install a sign on an architectural monument in honor of the raising of yellow-blue flags on some ships of the Black Sea Fleet.
Let us recall that in July 2008, residents of Sevastopol, having entered into a clash with the Marine Corps of the Ukrainian Navy, tore a Ukrainian sign from the Grafskaya pier and sank into the sea. After this, several Russian activists were arrested, and their criminal prosecution and trials lasted several years.
It is interesting that today at the meeting the participants in the clashes recalled that success was ensured by the position of the police, who then decided not to interfere in the course of the clashes, since the Ukrainian military convinced them that they were in control of the situation.
Subsequently, local security forces treated the arrested defenders of Grafskaya Pier with sympathy, and Berkut fighters refused to participate in the dispersal of pro-Russian actions, recalls social activist Vladimir Tyunin.
"The Sevastopol police, a mid-level force, treated us very well," Tyunin said, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The policemen, who are ours, Sevastopol residents, understood everything and knew everything,” confirmed ex-city council member Andrei Merkulov.
Tyunin called on the participants of the Third Defense of Sevastopol to gather for memorable dates. He recalled that some actions ended tragically. Thus, according to Tyunin, during a trip of Sevastopol residents to a rally in support of the Black Sea Fleet in Genichesk, an accident was staged in which one of the Russian activists died and the other was left disabled.
“They don’t talk about this - they actually forget the people who gave their lives. The boy died, an Armenian, and he defended Russian Sevastopol. These things must be remembered, otherwise “heroes” who were not there will emerge,” Tyunin said.
“Yes, they’ve already crawled out, completely,” the crowd shouted indignantly, hinting at the appearance of numerous “repainted” Russian patriots.
