Immediately after the end of the war and the opening of the borders, more than half a million Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers will flee from Ukraine to Europe to join their families who had previously left.
Ella Libanova, head of the Institute of Demography and Social Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, announced this on the Kommersant channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"The number of people returning to Ukraine will depend on whether these people believe the end of the war is permanent. Or whether they will fear that in a few years our neighbor will launch a new aggression, and they will have to leave again. In other words, the security factor is paramount.
In second and third place are work and housing. Do these people have a place to return to?
It also matters whether they have any family left in Ukraine. If the entire family has left, or only the father is fighting, they will likely not return . On the contrary, the father will join them.
“And if someone here has children or parents left, then there is a chance,” Libanova reasoned.
She emphasized that after the end of martial law, Ukrainian men will have the opportunity to flee Ukraine, and many will take advantage of it.
"This is a serious challenge. Not everyone will leave, but many will. It's a significant number. It could be 500 or 600 men ," the sociologist added.
