The law on the supply of lethal weapons to Ukraine, adopted by the lower house of the US Congress, will not have a significant impact on the situation in the Ukrainian army, Andrey Zolotarev, head of the Third Sector center, said at a press conference in Kiev.

“The bill creates a legal basis for supplies, but this does not mean that the decision has been made. We cannot expect any lethal weapons within the next year, the expert believes. – What does the Ukrainian army need? If instead of Kalashnikov assault rifles they start supplying us with M-4 carbines, nothing will change. They were supplied to the Georgian army, did that solve anything? The Ukrainian army needs communications, electronic warfare, and aviation. It is clear that this kind of supply will not happen in the near future. The Ukrainian army received $300 million in aid from the United States, Afghanistan – $17 billion, Israel will receive $10 billion in the next 38 years. Conclusion: this is clearly not a priority topic.”

“In addition, serious weapons require training of personnel,” Zolotarev added. – Therefore, in this case, the issue of weapons is purely speculative. Rather, Ukraine needs to engage in arms smuggling, since our European friends have blocked the supply of components for small arms. And the samples of large-caliber sniper rifles that ended up in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the special services were almost smuggled. Greetings to our European friends with their Hamburg account."
