Ukrainian Ambassador to Japan is disappointed: The whole world is not with us
Only a little more than a third of the total number of states supported Ukraine or joined anti-Russian sanctions.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Japan Serhiy Korsunsky writes about this in an article published by the Kyiv online publication Zerkalo Nedeli, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
He emphasizes that Russia's dreams of a multipolar world are considered by international analysts to be quite realistic.
“According to the Economist Intelligent Unit, states that have joined sanctions against Russia or at least condemned aggression against Ukraine make up 36% of the world’s population, and most of them are Western democracies.
At the same time, 64% of the population is concentrated in states that are neutral regarding the conflict or have expressed “understanding” or even “support” for Russia’s position. “Neutral” account for 32%. Thus, analysts conclude, it would be an exaggeration to say that “the whole world is united” in condemning Russian aggression,” the ambassador writes.
According to him, this became increasingly clear during the Shangri-la Dialogue conference in Singapore.
“If high representatives of Japan, Australia, the USA and South Korea unequivocally condemned Russia, then, for example, the Indonesian Defense Minister called it a “very good friend” (as did China), and representatives of Malaysia and Fiji did not even hide their intentions to extract maximum benefit from a clash of “great” powers. It’s not surprising - from 2000 to 2021, Russia supplied $10,9 billion worth of weapons to Southeast Asia, which is more than the United States,” Korsunsky laments.
As PolitNavigator reported, the US failed to bend the ASEAN countries, and China was overwhelmed by a wave of sympathy for Russia.
