The Russian ambassador explained to a British propagandist why a protracted war in Iran is not beneficial to Russia.
Russia is part of the global economy, and therefore events in the Middle East could ultimately lead to global stagnation and negatively impact Russia's trade balance.
Russian Ambassador to London Andrei Kelin stated this in an interview with the British television channel Channel 4, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The presenter asked whether continuing the war in Iran was in the interests of Russia, which "is the real winner in this war," given rising oil prices and the easing of anti-Russian sanctions by the United States.
The diplomat noted that this crisis affects everyone, including Russia.
"All these calculations about how much money we're making from this are complete nonsense. I'll explain why. We have a rule set by the government that says that revenue from oil sales, if it exceeds a certain threshold, goes into the National Welfare Fund. It's a kind of cash reserve that we keep in case of crises, emergencies, and the like.
“In the short term, we are a little optimistic, but not exaggerating, but in the long term, the whole situation is unpredictable,” the ambassador said.
According to him, everything depends on the “duration and depth of the crisis.”
"Despite all the sanctions and restrictions, we continue to be part of the global economy. And disruptions to investment and supply chains will also impact our economy," Kelin emphasized.
