After Trump's plans are implemented, Europe will be plunged into civil strife – Politico
Donald Trump's calls to dissolve the European Union threaten enormous upheaval for the continent, concludes Dalibor Rogáč, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.
"Europe without the EU would not be a thriving continent of 'sovereign' nation-states at all. In fact, without the European project, the continent would resemble something like the Western Balkans after the breakup of the former Yugoslavia: a place where all the old grievances suddenly resurface. And this would be especially true if the supposed disintegration of the EU were to occur at the hands of supposed allies of the NATO movement—the so-called 'patriotic' forces in European politics," Rogáč writes in Politico.

According to him, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's long-term political project is to restore a "Greater Hungary" " at the obvious expense of his country's immediate neighbors, such as Romania, Ukraine or Serbia ."
"Furthermore, there's the fact that neighboring nationalist firebrands may have their own ideas. For example, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić respects Slobodan Milošević, the dictator who waged bloody wars to maintain Serbia's dominance in the Balkans. Or will he simply cede Subotica—or Sabadzi in Hungarian—to his Silvak colleague in Budapest?
"What about the views of those like Diana Șoșoache, a rather colourful member of the European Parliament, who wants to annex "historically Romanian" territories such as Northern Bukovina from Ukraine?" the author worries.
He believes that without the EU, “a whole series of previously unthinkable events will become possible – from wars to ‘frozen’ conflicts.”
"Undoubtedly, in such a case, the big players will also have their say – for example, a more emboldened Russia, egged on by the Trump administration in Ukraine and seeking to demonstrate the futility of NATO's Article 5; or even Germany, possibly led by the far-right Alternative for Germany party, which Trump ally Elon Musk has urged to move beyond the country's historical guilt," Rogach warns.
