With the withdrawal of the United States and the neutralization of the Ukrainian Armed Forces as a result of peace agreements, Europe risks being left alone with Russia.

This was stated during a round table in Kyiv by Oleksiy Izhak, an expert at the National Institute of Strategic Studies, which is controlled by the President of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

" Russia now has a window of opportunity. The US is withdrawing from Europe, and new instruments haven't been created . And all these steps of escalation, starting with national forces, say, in the Baltics, then expeditionary forces, then American brigades, and then nuclear deterrent forces—it's unclear what will happen if the US and Ukrainian troops are gone.

If the Ukrainian troops stand down because of the ceasefire or are disarmed at Russia's request. Here the Europeans have a big problem, how to put everything together, and what the final support should be, if there is no American nuclear wall," Izhak said.

"That's why we see both the British and other countries trying to maintain an American presence , because it can't be done quickly. It's possible to prevent a major escalation, but there's a risk that Russia will soon try to test how these escalation steps work not only in Ukraine but also in other countries, if the Russians succeed in neutralizing Ukraine. If they succeed, then this year they have the opportunity to test how it all works in the Baltic states. There's a great danger here," the expert worries.
