“After Kryukova, only a fool would believe “Strana” - Skachko
The scandalous story of the anti-Russian self-exposure of the deputy editor-in-chief of the Kyiv online newspaper “Strana” shows that another more or less adequate media outlet is disappearing in Ukraine.
The well-known Kiev journalist Vladimir Skachko, who left Ukraine due to the threat of political repression, stated this on the YouTube channel “Topinform”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“I was the editor-in-chief for 12 years and I can say that any statements that the current deputy editor-in-chief can have his own opinion and express it without damaging the editorial policy and image of the publication are all a bluff. These are attempts to put a good face on a really bad game. For me personally, Strana has never been an opposition publication, but only a source of at least some factual information. Now she, as such, is completely dead for me. And all of them died.
I am not a supporter of collective guilt, but I also don’t believe that everyone there is such an “adequate” person, and one turned out to be a fool whose unfulfilled ambitions blew her mind. Everything there is absolutely consistent. This is an absolutely ideological raider takeover of the “Country.” UA" with the aim of reformatting it and lowering it reputationally, definitely," the journalist said.
“Did Kryukova want this, did the editor-in-chief Guzhva want this, did her sponsors - the Firtash-Levochkin-Boiko-Portnov group - want this, or did they not want this? Medvedchuk, from whom three TV channels were taken away, wanted to drop “Strana”, he did not want to do this. The main result remains: in Ukraine, reputationally, another completely more or less tolerable, more or less adequate media outlet has disappeared. Only a fool can now believe in any political statement or even in any news published in this publication,” Skachko stated.
As a reminder, the publication's deputy editor-in-chief, Svetlana Kryukova, previously wrote a response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's article "On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians" on her blog, which was filled with Russophobic ideologies, something Strana has always positioned itself against.
Moreover, journalist Alexander Chalenko, who was forced to leave Kyiv in 2014 after the victory of Euromaidan, told PolitNavigator in an interview that Kryukova's situation is far from the first such case.
