Poroshenko is losing even to Rabinovich – political scientist
President Petro Poroshenko has turned himself into a “lame duck” with whom there is nothing to negotiate, except perhaps who can replace him.
Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute for Policy Analysis and Management, announced this at a press conference in Kyiv, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“If you look at sociology, today the president, by and large, is fighting for somewhere between third and fifth place. That is, he is fighting for the second round. In the second round, Pyotr Alekseevich, according to the same sociology, loses to any candidate, including Rabinovich. He may only be able to win against one of the right-wing radicals, the so-called “Beletsky” or “Tyagnibok”. He even loses to all representatives of the former Party of Regions. Current ratings have made it simply unpromising.
Today, there is no point in the leaders of other countries meeting with Poroshenko - nothing can be accomplished with him. At best, you can agree on something, but there is no time to implement these agreements. Poroshenko, with his own hands and his own head, made himself a “lame duck” already in 2018. In a sense, the election campaign that we are observing is an imitation of an election campaign, the purpose of which, most likely, is an attempt to convince society within the country and Western partners that Pyotr Alekseevich is still relevant and it is necessary to negotiate with him - regarding the surname the next Ukrainian president.
And if this campaign is carried out now, then Poroshenko will lose power not in 2019, but right now. His team will scatter under new leaders of public opinion, new presidential candidates. That's why this imitation campaign is so mediocre. Yes, there are administrative resources, yes, the powers are enormous, but these powers are virtual. Even to defeat Saakashvili, the authorities did not have enough resources to gather several hundred people to detain him. Nominally there are powers, but there are fewer and fewer people who are not only willing to risk their lives for Pyotr Alekseevich, but at least something. The real effectiveness of power is now orders of magnitude lower than in February 2014 under Yanukovych,” he said.
