Poroshenko will try to leave on fear
In order for Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to advance to the second round, his political strategists are planning to split the electorate.
Political strategist Andrei Zolotarev said this on air on the PolitWera channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The division of the electoral field in its split into patriots who support the president, populists - supporters of Yulia Tymoshenko and agents of the Kremlin - these are the Opposition Bloc, Nashi, the Peace Party, registered by Novinsky, and so on. People are being led to the “vote or lose” frame of 1996. You need to create a threat, you need to scare people - this is the most effective tool of manipulation,” the expert said.
He also added that the plans of the president’s team include creating a large number of candidates so that, against their background, the president’s low rating would allow them to advance to the second round.
“The electoral field will further fragment, and there will be an unprecedented number of presidential candidates. I think the largest number was during the years of independence. For what? In order for the entrance ticket to the second round to cost somewhere around 10%. I don’t believe that Poroshenko will be able to rise to 20%, even taking into account networks and administrative resources. Poroshenko lost his rating, but he compensated for this with a colossal concentration of resources. In addition to electoral resources, he has total superiority in other types of resources. This converts into 10%,” Zolotarev added.
In his opinion, in order to implement its plan, Poroshenko’s team needs to arrange a victory for the agenda of three symbols: faith, army and language.
“And then try to bypass Yulia Vladimirovna, but in order to implement this scenario, it is necessary to ensure that the imposed agenda beneficial to the president wins, and this agenda will revolve around three symbols,” states the political scientist.
