Poroshenko was embarrassed in the USA
Petro Poroshenko was embarrassed when he failed to get US President Donald Trump to confirm the supply of lethal weapons at a meeting in New York, although Ukrainian propaganda had been trumpeting this the day before.
Ukrainian political scientist Pavel Rudyakov drew attention to this detail at a press conference in Kyiv, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.

According to him, Poroshenko had to get out of it in an interview with American journalists, claiming that Ukrainian weapons were not inferior to American ones.
“People around Poroshenko hoped, and he himself hoped, that he would immediately bring the first truckload of lethal weapons from there. When this question was indirectly raised, it was also omitted. No one discussed it, no lethal weapons were given.
When Poroshenko was later asked on some American channel whether this issue had been discussed, he said in a very original way that “we don’t need Jewellins, because we make good missiles ourselves”...
Either our expectations were too optimistic, or the embassy... did not say or fully understand that the Americans are not yet ready to give a clear and unambiguous “yes” answer at the presidential level,” Rudyakov said.
