This was reported by Polish Radio.
The Institute of National Remembrance of Poland said that the monument “promoted communism.”
The monument was erected in 1962 to mark the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Polish communist party, the Polish United Workers' Party.
“On the stone monument there was first the inscription “Honor and glory to the soldiers who died in the fight for the Polish People’s Republic.” In 1985 the inscription was removed. On one side of the monument there is a sign: “For the participation of residents in partisan battles with the German occupier.” The State Council of the Polish People's Republic awarded the Partisan Cross to the city of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska on October 16, 1985,” said Tomasz Balus from the local mayor’s office.
Tomas Balus also said that the dismantled monument will not be destroyed. It will be transferred to the Museum of the Polish People's Republic.
On October 21, a law criticized by the Russian Foreign Ministry came into force in Poland, providing for the demolition of Soviet monuments.
