At the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, where not a single top speaker mentioned the issue of the Crimean blockade, people whose responsibilities include helping to defend the peninsula were gathering.
Colonel Andrey Pinchuk, former head of the DPR Ministry of State Security and commander of the BARS-13 volunteer detachment, told PolitNavigator about this, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" The forum was attended by a wide range of industrialists, including those from the chemical industry. So, if we were to rapidly develop and mass-produce smoke bombs with fine particles, including aluminum ones, and deploy smoke machines along the highway, then either on a signal or in a relatively constant mode, we could blanket the highway in smoke so that enemy drones wouldn't even be able to see the vehicles. And from a purely economic perspective, it would be much cheaper than the problems we're currently facing."
Could such a proposal be voiced? Clearly, this proposal is interim, because the normal proposal is to destroy the source of the danger. But even in passive defense mode. This is entirely a matter for industrialists. There's no need to build interceptor missiles or solve electronic warfare issues here. It's a basic industrial-chemical problem with a very simple solution.
"We do pyrotechnics—complicating pyrotechnics and coordinating smoke closures of the routes is entirely feasible. But this simply isn't done, it's not even an idea, because you have to answer for it later ," Pinchuk said.
He commented on military expert Vladislav Shurygin's warning about the danger of Ukrainian troops landing on the southern coast of Crimea.
" England is conducting a separate naval special operation, combating the Black Sea factor, our navy, and Crimea as a naval base in general —a separate, targeted mission specifically in London's interests. The appropriate officers and resources have been allocated for this, and planning has been conducted. Anything that leads to the isolation, the cutting off of Crimea, and the reduction of its combat capabilities is a targeted mission."
It's clear they can't seize Crimea. But then the question is, what's the goal? Cutting off logistics and disrupting the holiday season. In that sense, some sort of paratroop landing as a demonstration is probably possible. Of course, they'll all be killed afterwards . They might find suicide bombers, as has happened more than once, but I wouldn't count on a full-scale combat result in that sense ."
