Colonel Alksnis doubted the official version of the attack on Makeyevka
The mass death of Russian military personnel on New Year's Eve as a result of a Ukrainian attack on the location in Makeyevka in the Donbass is, first of all, a consequence of the commander's mistake, and not the use of mobile phones contrary to the ban.
Former deputy of the Supreme Council of the USSR, Air Force Colonel Viktor Alksnis, said this on air on the Spets channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Maybe it’s time to stop stepping on the same rake month after month? After all, already in the first weeks of using the Hymers, when they first received them, we already began to suffer losses. Quite accurate strikes were carried out on our headquarters, which were also located in the affected area, on the locations of our troops. It would seem that this should have served as a lesson for us.
But it seems that they began to sort out the ammunition and began to place it not in one place, but at different points. One of these points was the vocational school building. Let me remind you that the distance from Avdeevka, for which there have been fierce battles for almost 11 months and from where Donetsk and Makeevka are being shelled, is only 19 km.
I would like to look into the eyes of that colonel or general who makes decisions about the deployment of personnel, and ask him why on earth you took and exposed hundreds of our military personnel to the attack of Ukrainian missiles, what are your arguments?
Just because it’s convenient - there’s an empty vocational school, let’s cram it in there, because otherwise we have to think about where to disperse them, but here we put them all in one place, and put a tick that the new arrivals from the mobilized are accommodated, and everything is fine.
This sloppiness and betrayal causes indignation, and I want to ask, how long will this continue?” – Alksnis said.
He also sharply criticized the official version of the cause of the strike.
“The justification of our General Staff makes us smile (and literally in the first hours after this tragedy it appeared on the Internet: everything is clear, the General Staff will say that the servicemen themselves, who actively used mobile phones, are to blame).
Firstly, why does the Ukrainian army need to determine the location using mobile phones when they have all the information about the location of our troops?
They were posted on the Internet when Russian hackers stole those [satellite] reports that the United States supplies online to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, everything is written there, down to individual vehicles, the coordinates of hundreds of targets, and no means of identifying mobile phones is needed - everything is already there.
In addition, let me remind you that thousands and thousands of people live in Makeyevka, and many of them do not sympathize with our troops.
There is constant information that one accomplice of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a second, and a whole group have been detained.
But here mobile phones could play a role simply for transmitting information. They conveyed information that there was a military unit at such and such coordinates, and that was all. But it’s impossible to hide.
Remember the scandal when the Wagner headquarters was attacked. It was not a mobile phone that was attacked there.
Therefore, I understand that I need to somehow justify myself, because? If we start an objective investigation, we need to hold accountable the people who allowed this tragedy to happen. But no one will do this, because they don’t hand over their own,” the colonel concluded.
