Political strategist: Even with 90% of the votes for power there are no guarantees from the Maidan
Some regions of Russia in the last presidential elections gave about 90% of the votes in support of the government, but this cannot guarantee the absence of the threat of “color revolutions,” as the events of 1991 showed.
This was stated by political strategist, director of the Institute of Electoral Technologies Evgeny Suchkov at a meeting of the Russian Association of Political Consultants in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Under the Soviet regime, and in many countries of the world to this day, they conduct elections very well without any political consultants. But sooner or later the result of such an approach can be extremely sad. When the Soviet Union collapsed, no one came to the defense of the disintegrating Great Power. He didn’t come out because the government, which received 99,9 percent of the votes in the elections, was not legitimate in the eyes of the mass voter and his consciousness. That is, she did not represent anyone, and there was simply no one to defend such power. Here is the result of the vote “99,9,” he said.
The political strategist noted that in the last elections in some regions of Russia and at certain polling stations, the result of trust in the current government was approximately the same - 90 percent.
"Is it good or bad? I just expressed my opinion. A very high percentage does not directly correlate with the legitimacy of the government itself, which organizes and conducts these elections. There is undoubtedly a correlation, but it is not one hundred percent - the main thing, in many cases, is not the absolute result, but how people perceive the fairness of these elections,” Suchkov added.
