Political scientist: Yanukovych is “merging” the security forces – his only support
Kyiv, February 19 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) - Viktor Yanukovych on Wednesday morning published an emergency statement on the occasion of the unrest in Kyiv, accusing the parliamentary opposition of being unable to control the situation on the streets and violating the truce.

“I’ll be honest, I have advisers who try to persuade me to take tough options – to use force. But I have always considered the use of force to be a flawed approach. There is a better, more effective way - to find a common language. Political compromise. Reach an agreement. I have already said more than once that in this case something will lose power. The opposition will also lose. But Ukraine will win,” Yanukovych preferred to play the role of peacemaker.
Thus, Yanukovych is actually “merging” the security forces - his only support, says Russian political scientist Modest Kolerov.
“At night, democrats on the Maidan tore apart a Berkut member. There are no regrets from the authorities. Dozens of executed soldiers. But Yanukovych called this horror, in which servicemen and rebels are dying, a stupid conflict. This is how Yanukovych legitimized the civil war in Ukraine, trying to “stand above the fray” and not supporting the dying law enforcement officers, the only ones who save him from being torn to pieces,” Kolerov commented.
