Political scientist Dmitry Dzhangirov said this on air at UkrLife.
According to him, Turkey’s support for extremists from the Majlis intensified after a Russian military plane was shot down in the skies over Syria and relations with the Russian Federation became tense.
“The Turks, in fact, undermine the positions of the Crimean Tatars... For them, everything depended on relations with Russia. It's purely a tool. For them, the Tatars are also a kind of tool, a cynical approach. Before all these events with the downing of the plane, on the one hand, they allowed events to be held, but dissociated themselves in every possible way. Then they started to bring them a little closer. But the most important thing, as far as I understand, even after the plane was shot down, work on the construction of the Central Mosque did not stop. It is at the expense of the Turkish government, at the expense of Turkish money, that the Central Mosque is being built in Crimea. And, strictly speaking, Ukraine did not make any protests about this,” Dzhangirov said.
