Pogrebinsky: For the United States, any agreement between Zelensky and Putin is a living nightmare
The US Congress considers it unacceptable for the new Ukrainian government to independently find an effective and pragmatic way to come to an agreement with Moscow, even if this stops the war in Donbass.
Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky spoke about this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I have colleagues who work in structures for the American Congress, and they are worried that if Zelensky manages to come to an agreement with Putin, and he said that he would like to agree with him on something, and for him this is a priority the release of sailors, detainees, everyone for everyone, and so on - could this happen? I understand that Putin is not against it.
My American friends are worried that if he succeeds, he can tell the Ukrainian society: “It is clear that we have a confrontation as long as Russia controls Crimea, it will continue and so on, but you see - I talked and solved the problem, this means that we need to cooperate,” Pogrebinsky said.
“This is what scares my colleagues on the other side the most. They would really not like the new Ukrainian government to find some kind of pragmatic context for cooperation with Moscow. Even though they stop shooting, they don’t mind that they’re shooting here,” the expert added.
