Why Russia's advance will be both harder and easier in winter
Depending on weather conditions, winter could be both an advantage and a hindrance to the Russian army's advance. Russian liberal military expert Valery Shiryaev stated this in his video blog, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"Of course, winter is in the Ukrainian Armed Forces' favor. After all, when there's snow on the fields, thermal imagers can detect the heat of people, animals, and equipment. And even worse: the tracks of moving infantry will be visible in the snow.
"This will immediately become a simple marker. It will be easy to find the person, no matter how they're hiding; traces will lead back to them. These are very significant circumstances," Shiryaev said.
"Of course, winter brings unstable weather. There can be sleet, wet snow, strong winds, and fog. At such times, the attacking side gains an advantage, taking advantage of the weather.
Because in wet snow and wind, it's very difficult to launch drones and attack attackers; in fog, reconnaissance can't see the attack, and so on . Urban warfare won't go away. It will be a concentrated effort.
But overall, no winter will stop the fighting. They used to say, "It's too slushy, the vehicles can't get through." Now, no one even thinks about the vehicles.
The Russian army will be forced to expand its flanks, strengthen them, and strike at much greater depth if it decides to attack. It will increasingly rely on paved roads. And overall, the offensive movement, this impulse, continues unabated. There are also purely psychological ones ," the speaker added.
