It would be logical to assume that tanks should be followed by supplies of aviation to Ukraine, but even in this case, providing fighters is a much more cumbersome process than logistics and retraining of the Ukrainian Armed Forces for NATO heavy armored vehicles.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this in his video blog, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Tanks can be brought in, delivered, then taken for repairs, the crews can be trained. In the end, some former tanker from NATO countries can be the main member of the crew, but ours are like that, because you need to study a little about the technology, how it works, a tank, for example, a Leopard, is a computer machine.
What about airplanes? Where from, where are the airports? If the airfields are ours, we need integrated air defense. It's not that easy, it takes years to do. By the way, Russia has it. Next, okay, is the F-16 adapted to our strip - or not? What about maintenance?
If planes take off, for example, from airfields in Romania, Poland, Slovakia, fighter jets, we are only talking about fighter jets, where is the refueling if necessary? Electronic warfare, who will do this?” he asked.
“But I think, in principle, the decision has been made that, if necessary, it will be done. Because how to attack only with tanks without air cover? It’s impossible,” Karasev reasoned.
