Former Ukrainian consul in Munich and current rector of the German-based Ukrainian Free University Dmytro Shevchenko reported that the German government is preparing changes for Ukrainian refugees. A reduction in social benefits and a tightening of support conditions are expected.

He said the plan was to reduce the number of asylum applications to fewer than 100 annually, expand deportations, suspend family reunification programs and impose new border restrictions.

"They will completely curtail social support, and this was clear even before the elections. They are already saying that Ukrainian refugees will be denied fewer social benefits, there will be more fines for unemployment," Shevchenko warned.

According to the new Chancellor Merz, the country's infrastructure can no longer withstand the current load. Negotiations are currently underway with neighboring countries to implement these changes.

All these changes are a logical consequence of the righting of German society caused by the economic problems of Germany, which has been expressed in the strengthening of anti-migrant rhetoric and practices of politicians.

Back in 2022, the leader of the then opposition Christian Democratic Union, Friedrich Merz, called Ukrainian refugees "tourists on social security."

Despite the politically correct apologies that followed, the public apologies, the CDU's rhetoric about tightening controls on migration and cutting spending on refugee welfare has not changed.
