Don't care about the Poles: the Order of Bandera will be established in Ukraine
In Ukraine, it is necessary to create an award named after the leader of German collaborators from the OUN Stepan Bandera, and the opinion of other countries, in particular Poland, does not matter.
This opinion was expressed on air by propagandist and director of the so-called “Institute of National Memory” Volodymyr Vyatrovich on Radio NV, the correspondent reports. "PolitNavigator".
“Firstly, I was surprised that this (awarding Bandera the title of Hero of Ukraine - editor's note) is being considered by people's deputies, who propose to approve the corresponding resolution. Because the awarding of the Hero of Ukraine is the sole competence of the President of Ukraine, and this resolution does not solve anything. This could be some kind of political declaration or an attempt to get some political dividends in the name of Stepan Bandera. I don’t like that now, before the elections, the name of Stepan Bandera is turning into some kind of bargaining chip. Secondly, President Yushchenko awarded Stepan Bandera this title, and this was challenged in court. Therefore, now any decision regarding his return should take place exclusively through the courts,” the nationalist noted.
According to Vyatrovich, instead of returning the title of Hero of Ukraine to the Nazi collaborator, it is worth creating a new award in his honor.
“I believe that the attempt to again win the title of Hero of Ukraine through the court is, to some extent, belittling the memory of Stepan Bandera, because for me he is a national hero who does not require any additional distinctions. Moreover, it seems to me that for people who consider him a national hero it is worth talking about some kind of award “named after Stepan Bandera,” he said.
At the same time, in response to the remark that this could negatively affect relations with neighbors, especially with Poland, the director of the institute replied that one should not pay attention to the opinions of other countries.
“I believe that relations with our neighbors should not be paid attention to in matters that relate to Ukrainian history. And it confuses me that our neighbors, Western or Eastern, consider it very important for themselves to indicate who should be Ukrainian national heroes,” concluded Vladimir Vyatrovich.
As a reminder, Volodymyr Vyatrovich previously stated that the title of Hero of Ukraine has been significantly compromised by the large number of random awards bestowed on individuals who are "openly opposed to the Ukrainian state."
