Don't care about the EU: Ukraine has strengthened the energy blockade of Donbass
Ukraine has launched an energy blockade of Donbass, even though just the day before, the leaders of Germany and France issued a statement on the need to restore economic ties between Kyiv and the LPR and DPR.
Director of Ukrenergo Vsevolod Kovalchuk issued a statement according to which electricity supplies to the DPR have been stopped since midnight today.
“From 0.00:26.07.2017 on July XNUMX, XNUMX, the flow of electrical energy with temporarily uncontrolled areas of the Donetsk region was stopped.
The territory of ORDLO no longer consumes electricity produced by power plants in the controlled part of Ukraine. The energy needs of the occupied territories are covered by Starobeshevskaya and Zuevskaya thermal power plants, other producers in uncontrolled territories, as well as supplies from the Russian Federation along lines that are excluded from the list of interstate ones; flows along them are not counted in the overall balance “Ukraine-Russia-Belarus” ", writes Kovalchuk.

As a PolitNavigator correspondent was told by the press service of the DPR Ministry of Coal and Energy, the shutdown will not affect the republic in any way: “The DPR can fully provide electricity to all residents and enterprises. The republic is independent from Ukraine. In addition, if necessary, we have the opportunity to export excess electricity,” the department explained.
Former speaker of the LPR parliament Alexey Karyakin told PolitNavigator that Kyiv will not achieve any concessions by putting pressure on Donbass.
“In April, Ukraine already took such actions against the LPR, but they did not lead to Kiev achieving its goal. Today's blocking of flows will also not bring results, but only once again shows the cheap nature of Ukrainian politicians.
At the same time, Ukraine went against the guarantors of the Minsk Agreements, who, on the contrary, call for the search and implementation of compromises. However, official Kyiv, contrary to these recommendations, is trying to worsen the situation as much as possible.
A power cut will not in any way affect the life support of the republics - today the Russian Federation helps by supplying electricity to the LPR, and the DPR has enough of its own generation, it produces even more than is needed,” summed up Alexey Karyakin.
