The G20 summit in Osaka demonstrated that there is no isolation of Russia in the world community, and Western leaders cannot solve global problems without Vladimir Putin.

TV presenter and political scientist Sergei Mikheev stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“As for the G20, it’s just some kind of celebration of Russia’s isolation in full. Everyone met. Even Theresa May with a wooden face, although it would seem she might not have met, is already leaving - well, go away, goodbye. And they asked for a meeting, I think she needed it. So, it is quite obvious that the current G20 summit shows that it is not easy - there is no isolation, but everyone wants to meet with the leader of Russia, they want to discuss real projects with him, they understand that without him, without Russia, there really are no big global problems in this world can be resolved and this is quite obvious,” he noted.

Analyzing the recent meeting between the leaders of Russia and the United States , the political scientist noted that Donald Trump seems to have lost interest in Ukraine, as China and the Middle East are his top priorities.

“About Trump, this is my subjective opinion, but it seems to me that Trump wanted to meet with Putin during the Argentine summit. Trump has completely different priorities, he is fighting his opponents in the domestic political arena, the economy is a priority for him, the main foreign policy problem for him is China, he said this very clearly. The Middle East is also important to him.

Everything else is because, it seems to me, Trump himself has no taste for other problems, such as Ukraine and other things. It seems to me that he doesn’t even understand very well where it is and what it is.

And I personally think that he wanted to meet with Putin in Argentina, he was simply put under pressure by his environment and fooled his brains, and Poroshenko, perhaps, was specially organized with this Kerch provocation precisely in order to prevent the meeting. Now he meets with Putin with desire, forgetting about everything that was said about these 24 Ukrainian sailors,” the presenter emphasized.

Mikheev also drew a parallel with Russia's victory in the PACE , noting that Western leaders were waiting for the presidential elections in Ukraine to end in order to soften their rhetoric towards Russia.

“By the way, I would put this on par with the situation that happened in PACE. Why? It is quite obvious that the authorities of Western countries took advantage of the situation of the change of presidents in Ukraine to show that: “That’s it, now relations will follow slightly different rules.” This doesn’t mean that they are abandoning Ukraine or something like that, but they show that the rhetoric, the commitments that were under Poroshenko will no longer exist, that’s why no one remembered the sailors, that’s why no one even talked about them , that’s why all this is happening,” Mikheev summed up.

The editor-in-chief of the German magazine “World Economy”, political scientist Alexander Sosnovsky also commented on the brief dialogue between Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel, whose full meeting is scheduled for the morning of June 29. He emphasized that the Kerch provocation was not even raised, but they discussed the burning problem of migrants for Germany.

“There are several things that are very important following the meeting with Putin that you should pay attention to. Firstly, there was no conversation about Kerch and this issue was not raised, which was absolutely clear, since Germany understands that, in general, they are, in a certain sense, covered in that incident. Several AWACS aircraft flew from German territory towards the Black Sea and actually monitored the passage of the so-called “Kerch ships”.

In general, Ukraine was not really a topic and nothing was written about it in the German press either. But they paid attention and expected that some topic would probably be raised in the conversation between the two leaders, which concerns liberalism and the problem of refugees, which Putin spoke about in some detail in his interview. This is interesting, by the way, it’s very relevant, it’s very relevant for Germany,” Sosnovsky said.

As a reminder, PolitNavigator previously reported that the issue of Russia's return to PACE was decided back in early spring of this year , despite Zelenskyy's pleas to the leaders of France and Germany.
