The EU will not be able to offer support to Ukraine because there is no unity within it on this issue.
Jeremy Shapiro, Director of Research at the European Council on Foreign Relations, stated this at a webinar held by the American Quincy Institute for Responsible Public Administration, a correspondent reports. "PolitNavigator".
"In general, we need to admit that there is no consensus. There is no consensus even in the 26 EU countries that advocate that Europe should support Ukraine. It is unclear what exactly this support means: how much money should be allocated, and who should spend it, and how this will happen.
In particular, we are seeing discontent from the countries of Southern Europe. Especially Italy and Spain. The Prime Minister of Spain said: well, why do we need this, we have the Pyrenees and other buffers, Russia does not pose a direct threat. Of course, Russia is a problem. We support the fight against it, but others should pay," Shapiro said.
He is confident that Europe will not be able to replace the United States in terms of supporting the Kyiv regime.
