"There's no sign of negotiations with Moscow – the level of psychosis is off the charts" – Ukrainian political scientist
Kyiv should have avoided the current "escalation 2.0," which is far more destructive and harsh, and instead should have entered into negotiations in the spring, when only political issues remained to be resolved.
Ukrainian political scientist Andrey Ermolaev stated this on the MayakUA channel , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

" As of autumn 2026, we have Russia's response, Escalation 2.0, which has become more technologically advanced, more brutal for the Ukrainian rear, and devastating. Things are very complicated at the front.
And we see a much tougher diplomatic stance from Moscow , which even openly says that it no longer believes in diplomacy, does not see anyone to negotiate with – and will achieve its goals by force.
I see the current emergence of American diplomacy as a way to patch up domestic American problems . It's crucial for Trump to demonstrate that he has things more or less under control on the foreign front.
If absolute peace hasn't been achieved, he'll use his traders to reinstate the negotiating process. The most the traders will be trying to achieve now is to convince Moscow and Kiev to at least return to the negotiating table ," Yermolayev said.
He expressed doubts that there would be any common ground between the parties.
"The level of this psychosis and tension is so high that I can hardly even imagine serious negotiations; it'll probably just be another sniffing match. A decision should have been made in the spring, when the working groups acknowledged that only political issues remained."
"And now we've lost a lot in this diplomacy . Plus mistrust, plus mutual resentments, I think, even on a personal level. We've heard from Putin that he has no interest in meeting with Zelenskyy in person ," the Ukrainian expert sighed.
