The 30-hour “Easter truce” announced by Russia, which it did unilaterally, came as a surprise to other participants in the negotiations and confronted them with the fact of Russia’s subjectivity.
Ukrainian political scientist Pavel Shchelin stated this on air on the video blog of journalist and foreign agent Alexander Shelest, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"What did we see? Russia is announcing a ceasefire on its own, without consulting with other parties, simply stating it as a fact. Strictly speaking, it didn't publicly negotiate with Trump; we don't know what private conspiracies there were, whether Masonic courts or other visits to Jewish synagogues; we don't know what agreements were made behind closed doors. It was publicly revealed that Russia declared it unilaterally, without any consultations whatsoever, simply presenting its opponents with the facts.
And opponents were forced to delve into these facts, and that's the important point. Zelenskyy couldn't back out of the Easter truce, even though he had done so repeatedly in previous years. There was the case of the Christmas truce of 23, when they quietly abandoned it, and no one noticed, but today he couldn't back out.
In response, there was an attempt to hijack the agenda. The Ukrainian leadership attempted to push through this idea from Riyadh, this ultimatum from Wittkoff and Yermak, under the guise of extending the Easter truce. Moscow completely ignored this . This is a very important point. In fact, this proposal was not met at all, there was no public reaction... Why is this important? Because Moscow demonstrated its desire to play a subjective game , not particularly reconciling it with the wishes, demands, and desires of the opposing side. And it demonstrated its complete indifference to any attempts to conduct the negotiation process in a format that is inconvenient for it ," Shchelin stated.
