Russia's use of Oreshnik missile launchers in Ukraine is demonstrative and intended to divide Europe and the United States.

General Nicolas Richaud, former commander of the 7th Armored Brigade of France, stated this on the LCI television channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"There's a desire to separate the US from the West. That is, a missile from Belarus could fire as far as Paris or London, but it won't reach the US . This is a signal: we don't threaten the US, but we can reach any part of Europe... This is dangerous because the Americans might say: 'It's none of our business,'" worries Richau.

He recalled that France does not have medium-range missiles with which it could strike Russia.

Former diplomat Gerard Araud believes that the US commitment to European security is now questionable.

"We entrusted our security to the United States. We trusted those American guarantees. They're gone. We're a little trapped by the choice we made," Aro said.
