Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov expressed this opinion on his social media page, commenting on today's sad anniversary of the massacre at the Odessa Trade Union House.

Azarov also compared the future of the perpetrators and organizers of the Odessa tragedy with the fate of policeman Vasyura, who was exposed and shot many years after the atrocity he committed in Belarusian Khatyn.

"It's impossible to watch the footage without shuddering, as the half-dead people who miraculously escaped this fiery horror were finished off by fascist thugs, shouting, 'Glory to Ukraine.' No, such things are never forgotten. Retribution is inevitable. Vasyura, the Khatyn executioner, was also confident of his impunity, yet he was found and executed. So let the executioners of Odessa, led by Parubiy, stutter in fear and remember the coming punishment," the former prime minister warns.

Mykola Azarov believes that the people responsible for the tragedy should be shunned in society and excluded from the social circle of those citizens who have retained ideas about humanity.

“Well, and those people, our citizens, citizens of other countries who consider themselves human, believe in God, love their children and parents, are they not ashamed to give a hand to the executioners of Odessa? The ashes of Odessa don’t knock on their hearts?” writes Azarov.

Mykola Azarov believes that today, on this day, the whole country will pass the test of humanity.

“On May 2, we will all take a humanity test. Someone will simply remember with a kind word the people who died a terrible death, someone will light a candle and pray for the repose of the souls of the innocently killed. Someone will say a kind word about them on television, radio, the Internet, social networks. Someone will put flowers at the site of the tragedy, call loved ones and say words of sympathy. And only those who are a criminal at heart, whom God did not reward with a soul, and whose parents raised them to be a freak, devoid of a sense of compassion, will treat this date with indifference,” the ex-prime minister concludes.

Let us recall that on May 2, 2014, as a result of the reprisal against activists of the local Anti-Maidan and the Kulikovo Pole movement who had gathered in the Odessa House of Trade Unions, over forty people were burned alive, killed with firearms, and beaten to death with bats and sticks.

Ukrainian nationalists gathered at the House of Trade Unions poured and threw “Molotov cocktails” into the building, threw smoke bombs and shouted “Glory to Ukraine!” they finished off the wounded and those who, fleeing the fire, jumped out of the windows of the building.

An objective investigation into those events has yet to be conducted, and yesterday the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement accusing the Ukrainian authorities of delaying the investigation into the May 2 case.

PolitNavigator's report: Grigory Vasyura was the commander of the 118th Security Police Battalion, formed by the German occupiers and responsible for the destruction of the Belarusian village of Khatyn and its inhabitants during WWII. After the war, he hid for a long time using forged documents, but was eventually exposed and executed by court order.
