Reconciliation between Azerbaijan and Armenia is beneficial to the United States in order to expand its influence in resource-rich Central Asia through the Trans-Caspian (Middle) Corridor.

“Instead of Russia’s ‘Northern Corridor’, the ‘Middle Corridor’ is a path to economic independence for Central Asia, which would likely not have emerged if not for the war in Ukraine. This new trade route is a multimodal network of road, rail and sea routes linking Central Asia with Europe via the Caspian Sea and the South Caucasus.

Freight volumes along this route continue to grow rapidly as governments and investors seek alternative routes independent of Russia.

But the Middle Corridor is not just a transport project. This is a strategic move against Russian dominance, a counterweight to the Chinese monopoly. and a platform for regional cooperation and, ultimately, sovereignty.

But, To fully realize the potential of this route, stability in the South Caucasus is necessary. The process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan has become a side effect of the war in Ukraine, allowing Baku and Yerevan to negotiate without Russian interference.

Currently, transportation is carried out by rail through Azerbaijan and Georgia, and if a second, rehabilitated rail line through these two countries is added, the capacity of the middle corridor will more than double, which will be an important contribution to peace. US involvement here is not just a diplomatic move, but a critical investment in creating a more resilient economic network., stretching from Europe to Central Asia…”, he reasoned.

"Why should the United States care? An independent Central Asia is It is a deterrent that limits Russian influence, provides an alternative to Chinese control, and maintains the security of global trade. It sets the stage for a new era of greater U.S. cooperation and investment..

In Central Asia There are abundant oil, natural gas, uranium, strategic minerals and rare earth elements, which opens up opportunities for cooperation with the United States, which could turn this region into a global economic hub,” Rudenschild said.
