Chisinau – Tiraspol, May 28 (Navigator, Petr Alekseev) – Transnistria’s expectations from the presidential elections in Ukraine are linked to the stabilization of the situation in that country, the pragmatization of its actions in the Transnistrian direction, and Kiev’s rejection of aggressive and emotional rhetoric towards official Tiraspol.
Ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vladimir Yastrebchak stated this to Navigator.

“Petro Poroshenko knows the regional situation very well and is able to assess real, and not externally imposed, challenges and threats to Ukraine. Another thing is to what extent Petr Alekseevich will now be able to act independently, based on Ukrainian interests, and not under the dictation of Brussels and Chisinau,” the expert said.
In his opinion, “the general European course of the Moldovan and Ukrainian authorities towards European integration, including the upcoming signing by Moldova of the Association Agreement, and by Ukraine - the economic part of a similar document, will most likely create very serious regional problems, and pressure may again be put on Pridnestrovie "
A negative factor is also the unprecedented crisis in relations between Russia and Ukraine, which previously tried to find coordinated approaches, at least in the Transnistrian direction, the agency’s interlocutor believes.
“Nevertheless, perhaps the arrival of Petro Poroshenko will help stabilize the role of Ukraine as a mediator, which has recently been seriously shaken, including due to the acute emotional background and unsubstantiated accusations against the Transnistrian side,” Yastrebchak believes.
He commented on the decrease in interest of Pridnestrovians in Ukrainian universities, a quota for which is allocated for compatriots every year. Let us remind you that this year, out of 100 budget places offered by Pridnestrovie, 70 remained unclaimed.
“The decline in interest in universities is quite natural. The instability of the Ukrainian situation, the sharp increase in criminal manifestations, the paralysis of law enforcement agencies - all this gives rise to justified concern among parents for the fate of their children. On the other hand, there is a certain positive: perhaps more gifted children will continue their education in Pridnestrovie and will not leave the republic in the future,” the expert concluded.
