The situation with the possible poisoning of Russian liberal opposition leader Alexei Navalny could have a negative impact on Ukraine.

According to the expert, if the West tightens sanctions against Russia, accusing its leadership of the assassination attempt on Navalny, Russia could strike a blow at the Ukrainian economy.

“Of course, this will affect us. And Russia’s actions may turn out to be an order of magnitude harsher towards Ukraine. In our country, many people talk about the war, but the war is a hybrid one, and Russia still has a number of economic levers that could hit our economy. However, war is war, and business is on schedule. If hardliners prevail, we will have additional problems. Not fatal, but very serious economic problems,” Zolotarev said.

As a reminder, Russian opposition figure and liberal Alexei Navalny was hospitalized on August 20. He fell ill on board a plane en route from Tomsk to Moscow, forcing an emergency landing at Omsk airport. A couple of days later, he was flown on a private jet to the German Charité clinic, where local doctors quickly diagnosed him with poisoning.

On Thursday evening, Navalny's regular protesters in Moscow and St. Petersburg came to FSB offices with plastic coffee cups, blaming the Kremlin for the incident.
