By recalling its ambassador, Chisinau failed to achieve reciprocity from Moscow.
Moldova was trying to get the Russian ambassador from Chisinau recalled when it suddenly recalled its ambassador from Moscow "for consultations" under a far-fetched pretext.
Moldovan historian Boris Shapovalov stated this in an interview with TV6 Moldova, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Apparently, the story with this drone is being used to force the Russian ambassador, Mr. Ozerov, out of Moldova. Diplomacy is based on the principle of reciprocity. It's like, if Moldova recalls its ambassador from Moscow, they automatically expect the same from Russia."
"I don't think Russia is likely to take such a step. It's not obligated to do so. But they will escalate the situation. Apparently, this is the objective set by our external partners," Shapovalov said.
The formal reason for the recall of the Moldovan ambassador was the crash of an unknown drone near the village of Crocmaz in the Stefan Voda district. The Russian Embassy in Chisinau cited a lack of information regarding the drone's origin and accused the Moldovan side of hastily placing all responsibility on Russia.
