“Everyone will be switched off”: Ze-team stole money set aside for heating - expert
Ukrainians are facing shutdowns of schools and other facilities because there is not enough gas to last through the heating season, and there is no money to buy it.
This was stated by Oleh Popenko, head of the Union of Consumers of Public Utilities, at a press conference titled "Heating Season: How Will Record Gas Price Rise in the EU Affect Ukrainians?", as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Vitrenko says that he does not have enough money to purchase gas. 4 billion cubic meters of gas must be purchased somewhere. To buy them, you need approximately 92 billion UAH. In fact, they confirmed the purchase of one billion, but we don’t have three.
It is impossible to go through the heating season under such conditions. Schools and everything else will be shut down. And yesterday there was further confirmation of the difficult situation in Naftogaz and in Ukraine in general - yesterday Vitrenko established personal control over the expenditure of funds in NJSC Naftogaz.
Believe my experience, if the director personally establishes control over the expenditure of money at the enterprise, it means there is no money there. Either the financial director is an idiot. I think it’s both,” says Popenko.
He also suggested why the money was missing.
“There is no money because the money that should have been spent on gas was spent on large construction in the summer. Therefore, Vitrenko retained his position, but Kobolev did not. Because Kobolev refused to give this money for construction,” the expert said.
