The agreement to refrain from attacks on energy facilities is a purely demonstrative step intended to show the consent of the parties and will not have an impact on the course of military operations.

Military expert and retired colonel Konstantin Sivkov stated this in an interview with the Soyuznoye Veche channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"Putin supported the idea of Russia and Ukraine refraining from attacks on energy infrastructure for 30 days, and gave such a command to the military. Please comment on this statement," the host asked.

“This statement suggests that this restriction, which fundamentally does not affect the nature of the armed struggle on the front line, is simply a demonstrative step that is intended to demonstrate the ability of the parties, primarily Ukraine’s ability, to comply with the terms of peace.

What are we talking about? Ukraine cannot carry out any serious strikes on mobile troops using its long-range drones.

Therefore, it seeks to strike at stationary objects located deep in Russia's territory. And, in particular, at energy facilities. Energy facilities include power plants, including nuclear ones, all sorts of elements of the infrastructure for the transmission of electrical energy. And, in addition, enterprises associated with the oil and gas complex.

In turn, Russia also refuses to strike at similar objects, which we have been doing for a long time, and quite successfully,” Sivkov noted.

"At the same time, we can strike military facilities, other infrastructure facilities that are not energy, but are infrastructure that supports the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and, accordingly, the Russian Armed Forces. No one imposes restrictions on this.

"Let's just say this is one of the demonstrative steps aimed at demonstrating the beginning of a peace process, nothing more . It won't have any impact on the course of hostilities in the near future," the expert concluded.
