The founder of the Azov regiment, Verkhovna Rada deputy Andrei Biletsky, said this on air on the 112 Ukraine channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I doubt that Ukraine will be able to increase its naval potential in the Sea of Azov in the next 5-7 years, simply because we do not have this very navy in order to seriously confront Russia. In addition, as far as I know, the Sea of Azov is not very deep: the average depth there is 5 meters, not counting the Kerch-Yenikalsky shipping canal. It is not very suitable for combat operations. I think that if we talk about military strengthening, then, first of all, this is a question of strengthening the air force group, which can escort ships, but not with the help of other ships, but with the help of airplanes or helicopters, this would be more realistic ", Biletsky said.
The nationalist confirmed that the situation in the Sea of Azov threatens to turn into a disaster.
“As for the creation of a mine threat, yes, it actually exists, I confirm it. There really is a big problem with this. In 2014-2015, the Russians and the Ukrainian side were very active in doing these water mines against the landing. Because of the Azov storms, some of these things were simply torn off and now they are floating back and forth throughout the sea. This issue certainly needs to be resolved,” the deputy added.
As a reminder, PolitNavigator previously reported the words of Elena Subbotina, a board member of the Mariupol Salvation Forum, who emphasized that the mines that Ukrainian troops are laying in the Sea of Azov could reach the territory of the DPR.
