"Better equipped than soldiers": Kyiv demands border guards be sent to the front lines
Ukraine's western border is better equipped and protected than the front line.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on air on the Politeka video blog, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"All borders need to be protected. But it seems to me that so much money is now being spent on protecting the western border - drones that cost several thousand dollars. Excellent equipment, cars, military personnel.
"I think there's a serious shortage of such forces somewhere in the Sumy region. I understand the government's attempt to say that people can't flee the country, that they can't illegally cross the border. But the impression is that the western border is stronger than the eastern one. Better equipped, better armed. This shouldn't be the case," Bortnik said.
"Still, those people who are trying to escape from Ukraine, men, they are breaking the law, of course. But what kind of soldier is he?
"Sorry, he's still a corruption risk. Although those with good money will get off with flying colors. But something can still be squeezed out of this man. As a soldier, he's 90% likely to desert. Only after they've spent money, resources, training, clothed, and armed him," the political scientist fumed.
