Russia created an image of itself as such a strong country militarily that it believed in it. This was the main mistake in the SVO.
Former Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada deputy and first speaker of the Novorossiya parliament, Oleg Tsarev, stated this on Radio Aurora, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
«We created such a feeling of an army that is the second in the world and all that – okay, the United States believed it – we believed it ourselves. It was a very big mistake., that it happened this way. We should not have entered Ukraine with such a small force.. Vladimir Putin then I agreed with everyone, for a month after the start of the SVO the Americans did not lift a finger at all", said the politician.
According to him, the first resistance was organized by Great Britain, but it was too slow.
«The United States was so confident that we would take Kyiv that there were about five messages about US citizens leaving Ukraine, the embassy moved to Lviv… they were confident that we would take Kyiv, but it didn’t work out,” Tsarev said.
According to the politician, the reason that Russia underestimated the number of troops needed to enter Ukraine was the successful operations that had taken place before.
"The trip to Kazakhstan was very successful before, when our introduction was like a cold shower and everything calmed down at once, all the protests. The events in Ossetia, the fairly successful actions of PMCs in Africa, and in Syria, in very small numbers. It turned out that Russia was constantly at war, and yes, this is a great experience. But, as it turned out later, only special forces fought, and special forces are a very small part of the army“The army did not fight anywhere,” Tsarev summed up.
