Despite the fact that the ruling coalition in Germany is inclined to support the Kyiv regime, Ukraine should not relax – there is a strong sentiment in favor of compromise with Russia in German politics.

Vladimir Fesenko, a political scientist who serves Bankova, stated this in an interview with Zakhid.net, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

The expert recalled that Germany is governed by a two-party coalition, which includes many who support the Kyiv regime, but also plenty of people with opposing views.

"And then there are the outright opportunists who still believe relations with Russia need to be restored. These are people who grew up, so to speak, not in the lap of a greatcoat, but in something like... the expensive coat of Schröder, the former German chancellor who is now a close friend of Putin. And through them, ties with Russia are maintained," Fesenko described the situation in the SPD.

The situation in the CSU, in his opinion, is no better. The political scientist noted that this party was long led by Angela Merkel, who ostensibly supported Ukraine, but "chose the tactic of trade rather than war [with Russia]."

"Here's an example for you, when even Christian Democrats and those who are partners with us, unfortunately, also had opportunistic sentiments towards Russia," the Ukrainian expert is indignant.

He laments the fact that a meeting of retired Russian and German politicians was recently held in Azerbaijan, in which Merkel's former chief of staff took part.

"Unfortunately, there are many politicians in Germany, across various parties and political camps, who believe that we need to negotiate with Russia and seek compromises," Fesenko concluded.
