Ombudsman: in Chuguev, guilty soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are being tortured at the guardhouse

The treatment of ATO soldiers at a guardhouse in the city of Chuguev, Kharkov region, borders on torture.

This was shown by the monitoring group of the national preventive mechanism, which visited the guardhouse and the room for temporarily detained military personnel of the branch of the Military Law Enforcement Service in Chuguev.

The monitors stated that due to lack of funding, the cells in which those sentenced to administrative arrest for up to 6 months are kept are not properly equipped. Thus, convicts do not have constant access to drinking water, a toilet, outside air enters through a hole in the wall, and there is insufficient lighting. There are not enough medical supplies and supplies to provide pre-medical and first aid.

During communication with soldiers of the military units of the Chuguevsky garrison, who were detained by the Military Law Enforcement Service for drinking alcoholic beverages, it was possible to find out that in this institution, measures of influence are applied to the detained persons that go beyond the bounds of humanity. So, in particular, from 21 to 5 or more people were kept in a room with an area of ​​6 square meters for more than a day, which is designed to hold no more than 20-40 people (on the day of the visit, there were 22 people in the room for temporarily detained military personnel).

According to the testimony of detainees, there were cases when guards poured water on the floor at night so that detainees could not lie down on it to rest, and in the morning they forced them to clean the room dry. At the same time, the arrangement in this room only contains benches, which, in principle, does not allow the detainees to have a normal rest at night.

Reportedly, despite the fact that the command of the guardhouse denies such facts, a detailed report and recommendations for stopping such arbitrariness will be sent to the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine.
