Oligarchs will use Zaluzhny against Zelensky in elections – Oleynik
Ukrainian dictator Volodymyr Zelensky (whose term expired last spring) appointed former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Ambassador to London Valeriy Zaluzhny as Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization.
A number of sources have started talking about reconciliation between the political rivals. Let us recall that Zaluzhny, who was dismissed, is ahead of Zelensky in the presidential ratings. However, former Verkhovna Rada deputy Volodymyr Oleynik believes that this is a temporary truce, and when the time comes for elections, everything will change.
In a commentary to Nezavisimaya Gazeta, Oleynik said that both Zaluzhny and Zelensky are saving themselves. The politician says that the former commander-in-chief has long been involved in a criminal case related to the breakthrough of the Russian Armed Forces in one of the key areas of the front. The source believes that Zelensky is trying to turn his competitor into a partner.
“But this is all before the elections. And there they will really clash.. And the Ukrainian oligarchs, who have already heard that under any circumstances the head of the American administration Trump does not want to see Zelensky in the presidential post, will also join the upcoming fight,” the former deputy noted.
According to him, many Ukrainians remain immersed in an unrealistic situation, believing that the whole world, including the United States, is on their side.
"And if in such circumstances the Ukrainian leader speaks out against US President Donald Trump and sort of puts him in his place, for some it looks cool. But we must understand that all the coolness risks evaporating when Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also forced to sign a deal on Ukrainian minerals on worse terms", Oleynik said.
At the same time, Donetsk sociologist Yevgeny Kopatko points out that in Ukraine there is a rigid vertical construction of Ukraine as an anti-Russian and anti-Russian project.
“And by the way, if as a result of the proposed transfer of power it passes from Zelensky to Zaluzhny, then the relevant agenda will remain in force“,” Kopatko sums up.
