Oligarch Deripaska: If the US seizes Venezuelan oil, they will be able to collapse the price of Russian oil
Billionaire Oleg Deripaska fears that by seizing control of Venezuela's oil reserves, the Americans could devastate Russia's budget revenues.
"If our American 'partners' get to Venezuela's oil fields (and they've already got to Guyana's), they'll control more than half of the world's oil reserves. And apparently, their plan is to ensure that the price of our oil doesn't rise above $50 per barrel," Deripaska wrote on social media.

Americanist Malek Dudakov predicts how events will unfold:
"A successor to Venezuela's leader—for example, current Vice President Rodriguez—will be pressured to hold early elections with the participation of opposition figures like Maria Machado. Furthermore, the White House will likely pressure Caracas to agree to very favorable terms for the US regarding access to its oil fields for Chevron."
Americanist Maxim Suchkov warns that the US's appetites may not be limited to Venezuela.
"Venezuela could become a lever of influence for the US on the global oil market... This will require considerable investment and time, but the game is worth the candle, since in the medium term it will strengthen America and weaken its main competitors – China and Russia... If you add to this Iran (No. 2 in natural gas reserves, No. 3 in proven oil reserves), where the regime has been rocked in recent days in a way it hasn't been for a long time, things get really interesting."
